Rossnowlagh?

Fri Nov 05, 2010 3:48 pm

We are heading to Donegal next Friday the 12th for two days fishing. We are staying at Bundoran but intend to fish Rossnowlagh. Just simply looking for tips on best species to target and if there might be anything interesting that might turn up, also best rigs to use and recommended bait. Any help and advice would be much appreciated thanks. :)

Main species during daylight are flounder and turbot with the occaisonal sea trout.... personally i haven't fished it at night but i'd imagine coalies and whiting should be there also FWIW

watch the waves at this venue - make sure you have a lot of your gear in a bucket hanging on the tripod

the water can appear to go out for 10 mins and then start coming back in for 10mins

it surges in and out covering 100metres in an instant

so you go from ankle deep to your waste in no time and see your gear disappear!

Cobyeires right! Dont leave your car near tripod either - speaking from experience - it chases in very unexpectedly. But all in all is a great beach to fish. I used 3 hook flappers with manky mackerel the last time - purchased from super valu!! left in the car stinking overnight, got all ikky !- and i was getting flounder, turbot and the odd sea trout - nothing more nothing less. The only thing i was doing was starting out with a long cast and varying my distances as the session went on. Generally fount it produced more on the shorter casts. But its a fab beach to fish on. Dont be put off about traveling to some other beaches in the area - there are some lovely spots to fish up further towards killybegs - i fished fintra once - but failed to produce - I would say its a better time to fish there now - nice clean sandy bottom with a river estuary and rocky outcrops - heard it can produce some nice flatties ;) Best of luck- would love to be going! :D

Conor
