baiting up with rag worm???

when your putting rag on a hook is it worth leaving an inch or two at the top for extra movement or could the worms nippers do damage to a light snood?

nippers

Cripes!!!

Must be king ragworm with nobs on that you are using up there
No, nippers will only damage you!

I normally thread them down the "mouth" to ensure the nippers can not get at me whilst I am dealing with the rest of the worm and leave about an inch off the bottom for movement - you want the fish biting at the right place!

I've often split the big king rag into several pieces and put them on kebab style, like you would with a mackerel on a 10/0 for big critters - it is VERY effective albeit VERY expensive in terms of the volume of king rag used.

FWIW...

When lobbing it out it is ok to leave bits sticking out either end but if you are hitting it out there then it may encourage the bait to tear and come off.

Just an opinion

Remember, A Brief dip before casting seems to keep Rag Tails on :D

Cut the tag end short to allow fish to suck the worm off without resistence especially for flats.

Me Da laughed at me too...

:D

I've got nasty nips off them before and just thought they might do a bit of damage to a 12lb snood if they were drunk off and chewing on it long enough!

I'll literally be lobbing these bad-boys no more than the length of my rod so I'm not worried abot bits flying off mid-cast. Was just wondering if the extra movement might induce more takes.

I also have another baiting question...

When sticking a mackeral strip on say a 1/0 hook, do you just pass the hook once through the belly bit of the strip or what way is best?

Sometimes I would pass the hook through once as above, then bring the strip back up against the shank and whip it all in place with some bait elastic if I was going to cast it out far (well, far by my standards...) Only thing is I've never once had a fish when using mackeral like this...

Me Da would pass the hook through a few times and kinda thread it up the shank like a worm, but it always seems to end up in a mushy mess down round the point when he does that...

I find bringing your first hole on the mackeral right over the eye of the hook solves this..
