lads can anyone recommend a good fixed spool reel to me fishing last night first cast got stuck a broke my reel im thinking springs are not ideal for beachfishing couldnt hold ground for a min line dragged into the rocks then bang bail arm flew off is it possible to know if a beach is going to b weedy or is it just a case of fishing it

Most of the beaches north of wicklow head are full of weed at the moment, especialy with the big tides taking loose weed off the high water mark. Better off giving these beaches a miss till later in october.

With Fixed Spool reels you get what you pay for. Buying a cheap fixed spool reel is false economy they tend to last for a season or less and pack in. What might seem like a bargain at the time might cost you more financially in the long run, or worse still loose a fish of a lifetime. The quality of the materials in some of the cheaper reels is quite poor, bearings, gears, spindle shaft and the body itself. Many of them come from the cheaper factories in the Far East not dedicated to building quality. If you’re serious about your fishing you are better paying a little more and buying quality.
