Winter fishing

Fri Sep 10, 2010 9:00 pm

Hi lads,
being a fan of freshly caught mackerel, Im just wondering is it common to catch eating size fish (eg flounder/whiting) in the winter? It'd be nice to catch something and bring it home in the winter the odd time if possible. Bear in mind I'm in the Dublin area by the way. Any advice or tips(including advice relating to sustability of the species) much appreciated

I'm exactly the same as you, there are whiting in dun laoghaire but are too small to take home.. Having said that never tried the west pier in winter, so maybe?

there is plenty of chances of nice fat codling all along the wicklow wexford coast during the winter if you put the time in my best fish last winter was 4.5lb more than enough for a meal

plenty of decent codling and moderate size whiting around dublin area if you put the hours in mostly off the rocky beaches with some depth though

Snooker cue is ready and waiting as always! Is night fishing/distance casting much more important when fishing in the winter? (I mainly lure fish in the summer)

I hope you have a wonderful and very good experience to catch in the winter. I think there are so many ways to catch it. I am exactly the same as you, but it is too small to take home.
