I just arranged my reels for the surfcasting rod i recieved a month ago...
But tying a 0.80mm line to a 0.46mm line wasnt very easy...
i managed to do it with a double uni-knot.
But my question now is... couldnt a braided line work as a shockleader or does it have to be the nylon ones due to the flex in'em ?
An example:
Fireline XDS 0.41mm has a brakingstrain at 54Kilos. should that to the trick?? I have found a braided that hold up to 72kilos...
The reason i want to use the braided lines is that the uniknot with both a 0.46mm and a 0.80mm is rather big and im afraid it will destroy the rings on my rod.

Hi there, That is certainly the last thing you want to do!!!, Regardless of the breaking strain in braid there is zero stretch, it is the whole shock/stretch factor in Nylon's, Monofilament and Co-polymers which prevent the line snapping when you cast. However, I understand your predicament and would suggest a few different knots to try, a lot of the tournament casters use micro knots and they use 80lb shock-leaders to .30 lines!! I will post a snap of a knot or two for you to try this evening on my personal gallery. Also the knot I would recommend is excellent when fishing where there is weed around, the weed slips off the knot which prevents you throwing the rod on the beach and running into the surf to get your fish because your shock-leader is stuck at your top eye!!!!!

these look like braid to mono knots Fogelbeard?? Robert is right. a braid shockleader would have little stretch and therefore little or no shock obsorbing qualities. it would be dangerous!!

What happens with that knot too is weed comes to your top ring and literally "pops" off down to your trace end!, Try it it really works, and MB3 is also right, that knot is excellent for braid to shockleader, I use it boat fishing when a leader is necessary!
