sea bass in Kinvara, New Quay area

Fri Aug 27, 2010 11:48 am

hi

I am new to the forum, just started trying for sea bass using a plastic sand eel around Traught beach Kinvara, Co. Galway & New Quay pier, Bellharbour, Co. Clare.

I am looking for some tips for sea-bass: bait, local seabass marks etc.

thanks

Howdy your wasting your time at Trácht beach and Bell Harbour for Bass IMHO. They've been taken before around the New Quay area but not in any great numbers. You'll get mullet feeding in Bell Harbour FWIW.

A few flounder hang around Bell Harbour. Ive seen plenty of people trying in NewQuay but I,ve never seen anyone catch.
Head out West to the open sea or try North Clare for pollack on the softies.

If you catch a bass in either of those locations I'll eat my hat. As said above if you are looking to target a bass you really should try a different mark like some of the surf beaches along the Clare coast (or ideally even further south). Try spinning with the sandeel at various points along rocks often found at one or both sides of a beach.

This website has an excellent blog with very useful information on bass, Jim is just starting a feature on bass locations which would be of interest.
