Hi
Can anyone advise what the big advantage is of using crimps, beads and swivels on a paternoster rig for attaching the snoods to the main rig line instead of a simple dropper knot? I understand there is a bit more movement of the bait when the snood is able to move a couple of inches up and down the main rig but surely in the sea the bait would move enough on a dropper???
Is it a case that it helps a fish hook itself? Will the droppers give way under the pressure of a cast? Might sound like a stupid question but would like an answer if anyone can help.
Cheers

Very simply, it allows a more appropriate, subtle material to be used as a snood rather than the same material as a heavy rig body. Droppers are fine on med. mono dropped down the side of a rock/pier wall but are not suitable for distance casting.

all those knots will weaken your line so a powerfull cast could see your rig snap ,i tried making a bare bones rig for daylight bass fishing and cut the droppers to make a single snood ,i gave it a good pull to test it and it slipped out and parted ,not much use if you hook a big bass and have to drag him through the surf, you can also cut off old snoods and tie on new ones when they get worn ,some people use small clips and adjustable crimps so as to allow different snood lenghts and hook sizes to be used on one rig body

Yeah I was only thinking of the lighter snoods today after posting the comment last night, I wouldnt be over concerned about the knots giving way though as the main rig line I'm using is 65lb and the knots seem reliable even under a lot of pressure but I have decided to use the three way swivels instead as I just dont like crimps, or maybe even put a simple knot either side of 2 beads and a normal swivel??

you can use a half decent knot to help make a dropper on rigs for close range lobbing. had plenty of bass on them. nothing wrong with crimps if done correctly though. if u really want to avoid them then use stop knots out of 10- 15lb mono- they will help keep the strenght of your rig body.
