worst year yet we've been doing a lot of rock fishing into pretty deep water around co. down and antrim from marks that always throw up mackeral at this time of year. but the mackeral that are out there do'nt seem to be coming into the shore for some reason . we have been getting them out in the boat around belfast lough, but it's the same story again where if you do find a shoal you will get some, but if you can't find the shoal you'll get diddly squat . i know some people have been lucky enough to get the odd one from the shore, but not on any kind of regular basis like in previous years. just to add another variable into the mix i've noticed that a hell of a lot of the coalies we've been catching seem to be starved. we got some this week at the mouth of strangford up to 45cm long that struggled to make 1lb 8oz . normally a fish of that length at this time of year should be well fed on sprats, sand eel and herring and pushing the 3lb mark, but like i said,, the look starved and put no fight whats so ever
