Doolin beach

I have been told time over and over that Doolin beach in Co Clare is the best bass fishing beach in the country and nobody fishes it anymore.

I took a walk down there recently and it is an unusual beach with a dark blue or blackish sand looks verry bassy and has one of the best surf breakers I ever seen actually it is on a denny's ad on tv lately as when there is a heavy surf it actually creates roolers of tunnels.

Spinning lug and fly I was told to use.

Has anyone ever fished this beach and if so how did you get on ?

Is that the small beach south of Quilty that has a lake behind it, just north of White strand?

Doolin beach is extremely dangerous and has been the scene of several drownings in recent years. The sand banks and bars are known to move without warning and catastrophically. For this reason plugging and SWFF are a definite no-no. If you want to pitch something in off the beach, well and good, but I would warn anyone not to venture into the water around Doolin.

Hi Mac, the beach you refer to is Lough Donnell - a quiet beach with plenty of surf.

That's the one Woody. Plenty of surf. Have had a few Bass off this beach up to 5lbs. I've also had the odd nice flounder but never really tried for them. A nice beach all the same.

Yeah that beach has great potential I have had plenty of dogs flats rockling no bass as of yet but its one of those beaches that could throw up anything the locals swear by using a rubber eel attached to a bubble float weighed down with a drilled bullet around 3 feet away from the bubble for the bass and sea trout.

As I said it before I recon the Clare beaches would be a great venue for a big weekender competition like what they have in Kilmore during the winter as there are coalies whiting dogs bass rockling ray flats and with plenty of different baits in the water and people fishing at all ranges from in close to past the breakers there should be a good result.

I find it hard to dig lug at times as I live in Shannon town and am limited to time so I always end up using sand eels and mackerel and usually catch flats dogs whiting and coalies during the winter along wiht the odd bass but anyone who I met on the Clare beaches using lug had some nice and flats.

So I must investigate in how to go abut a winter weekender in Clare around nov 06 which wont clash with the Kilmore one.

Good amount of Lug to be found in Seapoint pier. Dig at low water about 6 feet back form the waters edge in the harbour where the boats are moored.. It wont take long to get enough for a session. Then head off to your local mark. :D
