possible conger ?

Hi,

Last night we had a fair tug/lash on the rod and line ran for a bit and then went tight. And there was no way of getting it back, eventually the line of the rig broke. We were using a home made rig (made from 24lb line) with 2 hooks, size 2 and size 4, we were basically letting it trawl along the bottom hoping for flatfish. Bait was lugworm tipped with some slivers of mackerel.
We have taken some decent sized dogfish with the same setup previously, but never had anything like the tug last night. Any chance this would have been a conger ? Would a conger be even attracted to a small piece of mackerel bait ?

thanks...

could be, might also have been a good sized huss. theres been a few of them caught around cork recently in spots where you wouldnt expect them. one was over 10lbs on a sandy beach :o
