Fri Aug 13, 2010 11:18 pm

Hi lads wondering if yous could give me some advice? Bringing a few mates out on Sunday to either Greystones or Wicklow,Only getin back fishing after 10 years!! used to fish Greystones beach with great success, wondering if its still produces? I know the lads cant cast very far so was thinking a few hours on wicklow pier then the beach. Is it worth the journy or should i stick to Greystones? Gonna be fishing from afternoon onwards. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

If I was you id head for wicklow pier the big tides will not make for comfortable fishing on those beaches.

gannons was full of weed last weekend, not a good place to be starting out again after 10years- you will only give up again! kilcoole and killloughter look similar. the drive down to killoughter is fine if you have a jeep or a car you dont mind grinding! go somewhere handy and get a few bites -hard to beat!

Greystones south beach was very productive on Tuesday night, with a very welcome surprise guest showing up ;) On Thursday night, conditions seemed perfect with a nice surf running but it turned out to be pretty unfishable with strong winds running down the beach, blowing straight into me earhole, and the weedfish out in force; one every cast.

Try the rocky cove to the southside of greystones harbour. You dont need a cast here; the fish are practically under your feet. Float fishing in close can be fun here. Use small hooks, size 4 and lower. Aim to be fishing here on the rising tide, say 2 hrs after low water. I find the fish tend to ease off here around 2 hrs before high tide and the bigger tides not as productive.

Dun Laoghaire harbour was good last Sunday. Float fished on the west pier between the first and second elbow. 7 fish in an hour (wrasse, pollack, pouting and codling). Nothing massive but a bit of crack all the same. You also have the chance of a few mackerel.

i think a harbour would be a good choice more chance of fish even if smaller bray greystones or wicklow or arklow all good bets no big casts required and a chance of mackrel of all of em 8)
