Thinking of heading down to cahore / wexford area midweek.
1. Anywhere worth fishing during the day / evening?
2. Where can i buy bait?

you can buy bait in the shop in ballygarret. its easy to find cause its the only shop there :) . but he doesn't sell live bait. the nearest live bait is in franks newsagents in courtown.

as for the fishing. beach fishing is good on the north beach, i perfer when the tides well in and fish betwen the groynes. the south beach is up behind the castle (think its called ballinloulard, but i cant spell for s***). thats a great beach venue caught every knid of species there and some good sizes too.

theres also a bit of pier fishing done, but all i ever got there were dogs, and spider crabs. or up on the high rocks south of the pier but never fished there myself.

Courtown beach is an excellent spot this time of the year for Smoothies, Flats and Rays. Try fishing up to the far left of the beach where the road ends and the there is a car park. Ragworm, Crab and Sandeel are the bait there. You could pick up Rag in Tommys in Gorey too, but Franks is the handiest, buy it early down there!!, its muck in the afternoon. The Harbour is full of mullet, flounder and fresh water eels too in case the beach is too rough :wink:

Actually sometimes redmonds does have live bait. I got a few live rag last weekend when I was down. I always hear stories of 10lb bass monster smoothies and rays but Ive yet to catch anything like that myself or see anyone catching anything like this (although I dont fish there very frequently and to be honest I rarely catch anything besides doggies or mini dabs anyway).

There are plenty of big mullet in the harbour but I have come to the conclusion there impossible to catch. However the eels practically jumping out of the water at you should keep you amused.

All in all theres some lovely marks in north wexford courtown,rooney point,cahore pier, morriscastle, ballinoulart, tinnebearna etc. which all hold the promise of a big fish but mostly throw up only doggies and dab(in my experience). My advice is just try some marks for yourself as Ive also found from experience that the beaches are quite inconsistent and you never know where will be fishing best at the moment. Good luck anyway and I hope Im not sounding too cynical (its just me im a miserable ba****d)

Ps I will second that recommendation for courtown beach. This mark is often overlooked as most head further down towards morriscastle area however on occasion this spot has provided tremendous sport.

Howea Johnny, I have manged to get those Mullet out of the harbour, they only way to get them is light coarse gear or size 12 Trebbles using sweetcorn and bread, and fish on the steps between the Island, at least then they are easy to land before their soft lips burst!!!, Yeah Courtown is very overlook as is Rooney point now you mention it.

Was that at night Robert or day? and is that the spot where you go down the steps and your on a little ledge? Id like to catch one of them cause I hear they fight like mad. Thanks.

Early morning usually is best, if you really want to put the effort in ground bait it an hour before hand, with bread, sweetcorn and garden worms, and yeah thats the spot for them, they really do fight like mad.
