Breaking rods

I have had a Daiwa Bass rod (1-3 oz) for a year or so but not used it much. When spinning from rocks with about 1 1oz weight, it snapped. When I rang the mail order firm they explained that it must have been my fault because when there is a rod fault it shows in the first couple of casts. Is this the case? Does it take much to damage a carbon fibre rod? Are glass fibre rods still made? - I had one for years without bother.

if it falls on the rocks or hits the rocks hard your next cast might end up in the rod breaking in your hands.

A rod should not break under normal conditions, sometimes rods get knock without you realizing it and cause a weak spot on the rod.
Even though it has only been used a couple of time you have the rod a year and i think any item would be out of warranty after that period of time.
Some rods would be more prone to breaking because they have thinner walls on the blank and anything chucked on the rod or knocked off a sharp object, or the most common of all is the boot door would cause the weak spot.
Glass fiber rods were bulletproof alright but not that nice to use very heavy and terrible action, they are not made for the serious angler anymore as far as I know.

any rod can snap ,normally from getting a knock the most common cause is line wrapped around a ring, very easy to do even for someone fishing all their lives what they say about the rod breaking in the first couple of casts is prob true for most defects ,its not uncommon for a particular rod to snap in its first few casts, diawa had a problem with one rod where nearlly everyone sold snapped but the fact yours is a year old and has been used a few times would seem to suggest pilot error or accidental damage prior to the fatal cast,carbon rods are lighter and stronger than glass fibre but will not take the abuse ,look into fladen maximus range they are a carbon mix and will take alot more knocks and abuse

I used to have a beautiful zebco trophy spinning rod and while I was resting it on my bag a dog owner threw a tennisball over my line and the dog ran straight into my line dragged the rod across the rocks and broke it into four pieces on the top part of the rod and unfortunately the rod was end of the line so I'm left with the bottom half of my good rod.
