Felt the line tugging last night, and reeled this guy in hanging onto the line tight. Not quite what I was hoping for. Is it common to pull crabs when bait fishing ?

that's a spider crab. They can be very annoying when fishing fenit pier. I've caught a few of them. The meat in the legs and claws is supposed to be good to eat. I've seen lobster, large edible crabs, spider crabs and thousands of shore crabs caught on rod and line so i doubt it's than un common.

the meat in the legs and claws is top notch and if you could'nt be annoyed messing about with the meat in the main body it's great for groundbaiting up wrasse marks

. just crush it down (shell and all) and drop it in at your feet from a rock mark bit by bit and watch as the wrasse move in and munch it down
