morning blowin,
you'll get away fine with the carp rod you have for general sea float fishing, the carp rod is ideal really for float fishing for pollack and wrasse, but i'd recommend that you get a slightly different rod for the mullet if you intent to do alot mullet fishing. i'm sure you well know that mullet are renowned for being really easy to spook, and notoriously to difficult to hook. plus you're generally not fishing into classic rough ground conditions as you would for pollack and wrasse, so you can get away with lighter tackle. your best bet is to flick through some coarse fishing magazines, and have a look at feeder rods, and power waggler rods. these rods are designed to work with lines ranging from 3lb though to 8lb's in some cases. they generally have a very forgiving tip section, with a progressive powerful action for turning fish and bullying them away from snags while still using light line. i'd suggest you look at the power waggler rods(sorry, that's a type of float rod, i keep forgetting ye heathens know nothing about coarse fishing!) these rods are a recent enough development, based on normal float rods. they are designed to land carp and tench on light lines, so would be ideal for mullet from sheltered harbours and estuaries. and you should be able to pick them up for under 50 quid, so they're not a bad old investment....of course as with all fishing gear, the skies the limit price wise if moneey is no object! pm me if you want any more info, or the above post makes absolutely no sense!

yup, most definitely! those rods are capable of landing 20lb carp, pollack would be no hassle at all on them. and apologies for the mix up in the names, for some reason i got it into my head that blowin posted that thread, sorry pookie!

I do a load of mulleting and I use the feeder rods as talked about above. The ones I have are "Red Wolf"s and wre seriously cheap (20 quid I think). I give them dogs abuse and they're still in great nick. Landed mullet over 6lbs on them without any hassle and its the best fun you'll have fishing!
