keeping blow lug

Hi ,
How do you keep blow lug in good condition and for how long can you do so , please ?

And since no-one has answered this question when I've asked it before I'll sneak it back in here - what , if anything , do you feed rag on ?

If you are keeping rag long term in water try them with fish flakes, if you only have them for a week or so id say theyd be grand without food

When you say "try" fish flakes does that mean you are not sure ? Sounds like a good idea and I don't suppose it would harm anyway as long as the water was changed often enough to keep it clean .

Reference keeping lug , I do know that if you have a mass of them all tangled up together , particularly in even a little water , they "blow" ( hence the name ) their juices out and go off in no time .
Having picked up so many the other day I made like a sandwich of fluted cardboard & newspaper , just dampened with sea water and separated by a layer of the bladder type seaweed onto which I spaced out the worms . Ended up with 5 layers . Fridge overnight . Most were still in pretty good condition the next evening despite the box being out with me for the whole of a hot day . Don't think many would have survived through day 2 tho'. Anyone got another idea ? Maybe vermiculite ??

space them out on a tray and place a layer of damp newspaper/ cloth over them, should keep for several days with practice.

There was an article in sea angler a while ago about this. Ill see if I can dig it out. In the mean time from memory I believe you cut the head off and squeeze out the guts from the tale down to the opening at the head (lovely). When they are gutted you simply keep them in batches of ten in newspaper and they last a good while. Cant remember how long exactly but it was a good while. Hope this helps.

I think your memory is correct but that method applies to Black lug instead of the blow lug .
I'm not an expert but I think the main differences are colour , habitat ( Blacks go down deeper ) and shape of burrow - blacks go straight down whereas the ? others have a U shaped hole - cast at one end , slight depression at the other . The worm is generally to be found in the middle .
Blacks are much less common , too . I've got a feeling they are supposed to be deadly for cod .

forgot to say in a fridge! at 40 degrees. sorry...

Used to have a marine tank at work and small rag managed to get transferred into it. We were keeping prawns fed on flake and rag must of been taking this too.
