tides when spinning from rock marks

Beside the easy on to a mark does it matter fishing a rock mark at low tide.

My thinking was being into deep water it should not, but does it.

It certainly can affect it especially where pollack and mackerel are concerned. I find the best time is evening time on the latter half of a rising tide. They seem to come on the feed then in a big way, especially if you have a bit of breeze ruffling the surface a bit too. Thats not to say you wont catch fish outside this but again, especially with pollack, they tend to be on the small side and sporadic at best. If you catch the right mark at the right time you can be looking at a fish a cast times.

If you intend spinning, can I suggest using a sandeel, spun as close to the bottom as you dare. Can be absolutely deadly for pollack.

from a safety point of view the obvious answer is to be sure you don't get cut off .
what wasn't so obvious until i found out the hard way today is that some of those apparently firm mudflats can turn treacherous if a little riverlet gets round behind you . Nearly lost my wellies . Wose still ,nearly had to call the wife to pull me out . Would never have lived that down .

What colour sandeel do you find best when spinning from the shore and what size hook do you use?

One of those frozen dead ones! Pass a 2/0 or 3/0 aberdeen through the mouth, nick through the back about a third down, snip the tail off and lash on with bait elastic. Keep it as straight as possible as this will help avoid line twist. Fish on a trace about 3 feet long leading to a swivel which then connect to mainline after sliding on a genie clip and a bead to protect your knot. Attach a lead weight to the clip, size dependent on depth of water your fishing. Cast out and retrieve slowly and keep as close to bottom as you dare. You will lose tackle on rock marks but thats life! Dont strike at bites, pollock will sometimes mouth at a bait before deciding to swallow, striking these little plucks will result in lost fish. When they decide to attack the bait, hold on, you will know all about it!
