Pet shop worms?

Mon Jun 28, 2010 1:20 pm

Was in the pet shop across the road yesterday looking around and noticed they sell worms. Was thinking of maybe giving them a go for the craic see if they produce anything. Anyone ever try this? Any recommendations? I rarely have time to go out for bait so an alternative would be nice when I cant. The worms are: Mealworms, mini mealworms, morioworms, waxworms.

Was thinking of getting some crickets too and tying them to a hook.

it is a good idea but I think I read some where that pike anglers should not buy gold fish from petshops to use as bait because the goldfish might be carry diseases that the native fish arent used to so maybe its the same for worms?

I have used meal worms before in the river and caught trout and perch on them ,i fish crickets all the time on lough corrib with a method called dapping where you head hook the cricket and dap it on the surface with a long rod 16 footer, fish takes lower the rod count to 5 and lift into the fish .Dont know about what you would catch in the sea with them ,they are a sub for grasshoppers when your too lazy to go collecting.

Last time I was in Fingal per shop I asked the assistant what the mealworm where like for bait and she told me that trout love the and they do caught a beautful 4pounder with the mealworm in Rathblegain Lakes with you young lads, so worth a go for the sea I guess

Thanks lads. Must try the mealworms in a well known trout mark. After I acquire a license that is

As with bottom fishing best thing to do i suppose would be to wait till the fish come on with normal rag/lug then throw a few mealworms on and see if theres any takers. Might leave them soak in mack juice for a while.
