rig making

have started to make my own rigs, some traditional and some my own contraptions, but the one problem i have is,when doing a rig with 2 snoods, one on the bottom for ledgering and another snood abit futher up to cover a different depth, i can use breakaway weight to clip the bottom snood,but i am at a loss how to clip the top one and in a way i can be certain it will release when it hits the water,is there anything out there that would take care of this,i read somewhere about buoyancy pins, would maybe that be the answer or is there something simple i am missing, appriciate any help in this or indeed any rig making tips. thanks lads

Cascasde swivel is probably the best best and simplest way, when the bottom link releases from the lead the line will go slack and the second hook should be realesed then also. Here's a link to show a loop rig but you should get the gist of how to apply them to other rigs such as a two hook up also. Hope it helps.

Also dont worry about the srt springs in the diagram there not a nessesity

m8...also make my own 'run of the mill' rigs...started pushing the tag end through the eye of the swivel/hook (after tying the knot) and cutting the line just alittle long on the otherside of the eye, keeps it flush and does stop tangles and the snoods getting caught up...give it a try!...

Have a look at the below link from Alan Yates using the cascade swivel and SRT Springs to clip down the rig. I use these rigs all the time and they never fail to release using a breakaway leads and of late have been using the Gemini splashdown leads (bought the mould kit). However I have adapted this using the breakway adjustable crimps so as you can easily reset the rig to the correct tension on the snoods, when clipped as the crimps are movable on the main rig body. It also helps if you need to retie hooks when lost etc when the snoods are shorter. But as said before all the extras add expense to the rig, however making your own rather than shop bought is by far the cheaper option once you build up a stock of the components, line, snood line etc..

There seems to be a good range on the way out from Tronix and really good value too. Well for now at least! But seems to be in dribs and drabs.

Have to say ive been using the tronix range of tackle and its good ..... swivels are every bit as good as the breakaway ones and half the price .... also the hooks are very strong and very sharp .. no complaints from me

Agree on the swivels John. I got some in Viking and very happy with them. I used to use the Sakuma bulk pack but can't seem to get the smaller ones. Converted now though
