Mullet Hooks, gimmick or worth a pop!

Saw these in a magazine recently and was wondering what people think:



Sovereign Mullet Hooks: We discovered these while fishing in Hungary in 2005 where they are used to great effect to catch small pasty-sized Carp. It has taken us all this time to source and test them in any quantity and to have them tied on fluorocarbon. During our testing we discovered that the glint from either the red or the gold hooks actually improved the bite ratio over plain bronze hooks. The coil spring on the shank retains a small amount of bread, even once the mullet have removed the rest which generally makes them return for the last morsel and therefore get hooked. These have certainly improved our hookup rate by around 5 fold.

Interesting find, Would like to try them myself actually.Im sure you could make them yourself if you really wanted to take the time at it and make them right. May I be rude and ask where you sourced them for sale?

I like the idea of bread sticking in the coil and the mullet coming back for the rest
The only problem i have with them is that they`ll be no good for surface fishing.About 90% on my mullet fishing is done on the surface so i`d rarely have a use for them.
They would work great at harbours and places like Rosscarbery where bottom fishing is the order of the day...

ive seen these before in france, their pretty handy, berkley also do them. the design was originaly made for applying fish fish paste/putty to the hooks. never even crossed my mind as a mullet hook

i used to use things like that years ago when i was gathering up roach to use as pike bait, i removed the small spring from a pen (even smaller and lighter ones from an old lighter) cut the spring to size and opened it a little, and wiped it onto the hook just below the eye. it held the bread or doe far better than just squeezing it onto the hook, and if you miss your first bite you know that your hook is not cleaned for there is always some bait left in the spring.

yep, same here, fire lighter springs worked best for me, don't start smoking now lads, that's a lot dearer

Thats a great idea, many thanks. Going out tonight will get out my oul pens and whip a couple up.

Picked up these today they work great bread stays on longer the fish just keeps trying to get it off
