Conger Newbie

Hey all.
I have a spot I'm hoping to get onto this weekend. Its a rock mark, tonnes of kelp in close on a gentle sloping slant downwards (out 20 feet). At this point there is a sheer drop of approximately 15/30 feet depending on the exact spot on the mark. I know for a fact that there are very big wrasse, loadfs of pollack and at least one huss (the one that got away!). I've never caught conger/huss from the rocks and hope to try this weekend if anybody could just warn me of the moron mstakes. I'm pretty up to speed on tackle, but clueless on bait presentation and bit reaction and how to play the eels. Any help would be much appreciated.

best bait is fresh mackerel but fresh caught poor cod or pouting is a very good second bait .
best way i've found to present the bait is either half a mackerel hooked through the chin bringing the hook pointout through the skull , or if using poor cod or pout pass the hook through the wrist of the tail then back through the head then whip some bait elastic around the tail to hold it in place .
make sure you leave your reel out of gear or the drag slakened right of and put your ratchet on ,when a fish runs either hit it while its running or wait until if it's only a few clicks on the ratchet lift the rod and wait for the next bite before striking .
Good luck and dont forget your pliers or T-bar for unhooking your fish

Cheers for that. Its the little things that make all the difference! Just one more thing, where should I be shooting the bait to? Into the middle of the deep parts, just outside them etc?
