tips for beginner

hi a novice fisher here looking for advice on fishing where best spots are (in south wexford) ave tried it a few times with no results wondering wot im doing wrong, have used baits (usually rag) spinners and feathers any advice would be helpful even on the right tackle to be using

don't let 'blanking' put you off m8...local knowledge is key, ask tackle or local shops, pubs, or anyone you see fishing...Sea fishing takes a while to get results as even good 'marks' fishing differs depending on weather and tides...try different rigs ' Running Ledger' is good with rag different weights 2-4oz (its not all about distance!) fish 2hrs before and after full tide, if you like a spot try fishing the it both on a morning and evening tide...best luck

Try joining a local club and ask loads of questions it's the quickest way to get results.

hi gerryl was at sandeel bay last nite i know there was fish there as was watching the guls diving into the water close enough to shore but had no bait and was trying spinners and lures couldnt get the tackle to where they were diving (was in the wrong spot my fault). But lost some tackle there it fairly rocky so gave up and came home

so lesson learned keep eye on birds b4 i set up and have bait lol

A good start is to have a look at the map of Wexford thats on the "Shore Marks" section of the main menu. All the good spots are listed here. Rag will work over the summer and you could also try mackerel. If just starting out you could try baiting 3 small feathers with rag or mackerel and the best tip to catching is to then try to fish into darkness on the sandy deeper beaches. During daylight the rocky areas to the south west are a better bet.

Hi everyone.

I am also a beginner to sea fishing.

I was in wexford camping and fishing with the young lad last summer . By the beach. I wanted to go back this again.

I do a bit of fly fishing inland but have no clue on rig set up , hook size , line strength for the purpose of fishing wexford beaches.

Is there any links with pics that you could post on basic set ups.

Brian . I have been searching the net and came across this site. Its English but the set ups seem to be for the same fish.

I went out and bought crimps and beads today to make up so of the rigs shown.
