Advice on Ballycotton, East Cork.

Fri Jun 17, 2005 1:35 pm

Hello fellow conservative anglers,

Myself and codswollop have been very fortunate to be the recipients of a very generous birthday gift. Codswollop's girlfriend has bought him(us) a weekend away 30th/31st July 2005 in Ballycotton, East Cork. Any tips, advice or experiences you have from fishing this area at this time of year would be greatly appreciated. Send me a private message if necessary.

Looking forward to hearing back from you all. :? :?

Many thanks,
John D

Barry is right, John D. Its insane on the pier sometimes when the "lads" turn up to catch mackerel. I've walked away from there more than once because I was sure someone would be maimed with all that flying lead and no space to cast.

I found the breakwater a bit better to fish from, but watch out as you walk to the end for the ropes the boats use to tie up, they are easy to fall over.

Ask locally about other marks; the pier and breakwater are popular, but there are marks around the rocks not so populated. You will also be just a short drive away from Garryvoe strand, and that could be worth a visit.

Good luck :)

the pier can be a bit crazy with the mackeral bashers. some nice spots about 300 yds east of the pier float fishing for ballans. spinning or gilling with jellyworms will get you pollack. good bass mark east of that best taken with a plug. as for garryvoe beaches they'r a waste of time during the day. high water sat 30th. 13.24. send pm before you come down.

Many thanks lads

Take a look at my site this week I fished it last sunday. Best fished at night in the winter months for codling. Sole can be caught here, or so they say though Dave Jolly says that later on in the year is the only time for them. I tend to belive him. Loads of dogs and the odd huss, pollock and mackerel at the moment. My advice try the beaches at night, good luck![/i][/b]

Cheers mate!
