Old Head Kinsale

Mon Jun 07, 2010 1:30 pm

Hey
i m new on forum and sorry for my english..i'm french. I used to spent a week in ireland since 1996 and six years ago i've started to make some sea angling.
This year i will be in your wonderfull country 18th september to 25th. I will stay in Kenmare and make some fishing in Kerry and West Cork. Is it possible to go fishing at Old Head Kinsale ? I read that because of the golf access is not possible ? Is it true ?
Thanks for your answers

they will allow you to fish just as you go in the gate, down to the left. not an easy climb down if the grass is any bit damp but it has a big flat rock that would be comfy with 2 people or 3 at a bit of a squeeze. fished it a few times last year and had, gurnard, mackeral, pollack, plaice and flounder on lug, rag and sandeel. never had crab there tho.
i think if you have a membership card from a club they will allow you up further but if your on holidays you obviously wont have one :D

you are not allowed to fish the old head of kinsale because at the gates there is a security hut with a very agressive american
who will ask you are you a member of old head fishing society then you may go down a steep slope to catch on a good day wrasse or dogs the rest of the head has brilliant fishing but these golfing ***** have decided to stop irish people from been active and enjoying their heritage i have been fishing all my life great pollack conger wrasse mackeral etc down on marks all over the head but like the rest of ireland [galley head as well where a shotgun has been produced in the past ] the foreshore seems to come with property rights. Are we a republic my arse. My advise to french tourist is to go to some other country where acess to seas are not cordoned off for the sake of some rich americans.

Mod edit: Welcome to SAI, Tommy. But please, try to make your point without calling anyone a ****!
