new rubbish tip in howth

Balscadden Bay, for the first time in my life I decided to make the trip to howth for the mackerel
and to witness the feather brigade. The litter there was disgusting, beer cans, beer bottles and
tons of packaging for various fishing lures/feathers. This place was strewn with litter and I
mean it was chronic with some of it blowing into the sea. I passed a couple of comments hoping
someone might hear and at least clean up there own mess !!! :evil:

I've contacted fingal coco litter warden on 8906289 (feel free to call them), now I know there is nothing
that'll change the ways of these degenerates who litter but even if the council put bins/signs there it might
help. Anyone that sees that mess will just blame it on "anglers" :evil: :evil: :evil:

There must be quite a few new rubbish tips opening around Dublin recently, as there is another one in Greystones out near to the end of the pier. There was even baited hooks left on the wall for some unfortunate seagull to enjoy.

In the years ive been fishing Howth, Balscadden would be a last last resort...IN THE WINTER, dont even mention the summer!

I firmly believe Balscadden is a lost cause. It would take an army of litter wardens to make any kind of impact up there. To be honest, I would nearly go as far as saying they should fence the place off properly.....none of your rubbish mesh chicken wire, or your small knee high wooden planks.....proper 6ft high steel.
I know its not what us anglers want to see, but what other option is there? and lets be honest, Balscadden wouldnt rate highly on our Top Ten, no...Top Fifty!
Let them try and bring their cans over to Webbs, and make it back drunk....let me tell you, the rescue service would have a busy day at that spot!

I agree with fencing it off, fingal said they had load of complaints on howth over the weekend but I guess the only thing that would work is fencing with razor wire :x

This gets back to a thread that I made comment on recently. We were talking about the same thing , fencing and area off or even worse specifically putting up no fishing signs in an area because of the litter left by the eejits that claim to be fishermen. Maybe if it happened in Balscadden some of the anglers here wouldn't be too upset but what if it started happening at some of the better known hotspots around the country. All it takes is one county council to get the ball rolling. Remember folks, when dealing with the county council try to impress apon them that it is only the muppet feather chucking mackie bashing eejits that do this and that 99% of Anglers are very careful with rubbish. We dont want some muppets messing up some good fishing spots.

It is a touchy subject with good arguments for both sides.
And as I said, its not something we want to see, but someway, somehow it has to stop.
I've never seen a litter warden in Howth.......in fact now that i mention it, when I do see them ANYWHERE in Dublin, I have to look twice and focus on them, just to be sure that i didnt imagine it.

Anyway......time will tell......

I have to agree with you, Balscadden is a tip.
The only problem is that its handy for a mackeral on a late evening HW.
I always bring a pair of gardening gloves with me and collect up all the plastic beer can things, packaging and discarded line and burn the stuff.
If anyone gives out about the acrid smoke, I just smile and suggest they think about keeping the place tidy themselves.
When I was a kid, I saw a guy fall off the high cliffs because he got his foot tangled in discarded line. His own discarded line. They had to get the fire brigade, the garda and the RNLI to get this guy to hospital. Sad.

yes i fish balscadden nearly evey time i decide to go fishing its a mess i do the same thing pile the rubbish and burn it.
