bluey bait

hi to all lads.just wana ask a few lads on their opinions on blueys as a bait.ive been using 4 a while now and im thinking of putting it in to the same category as mussels.just an ok bait.i brought some on the boat the last day and tried on hard ground to which still had no luck.it is supposed to be one of the oilest fish goin.

so is it better on the sand or rocky grounds/wat species have ye had luck with this bait.

tried it afew times with no luck, it seems to be very similar to mackeral. mackeral wasnt doing anything for me during the colder months but excellent during the summer so maybe give it a go when the water temp is up.

Have tried Blueys a couple of times now, had heard great things about them, have found that mackerel outfishes them evertime, i find these very poor as a bait, but this could be a regional thing where Blueys might work in some areas and not in others, will not write off yet

i find them a great bait if you don't want to catch anything

agree with conger, fresh mackerel will outfish it any time in my experience.
Frozen macky V blueys is a bit closer and sandeel is as good.

i've only used it a few times and have caught most fish on it as i would have normally. i know some people in donegal sware by it and have caught plently of desent fish with it ray etc. as is with most bait its user choice. no harm in always having some a its something different to deploy.

I found the thing blueys were most efficient at was emptying my wallet! Had some success with very thin sandeel lenght strips bound onto the side of a sandeel bait! This combo seemed to work just as the dogs were coming on the feed, possibly because of the extra scent!

If mac were a Big Mac, Blueys would be like damp crisps. They plug the hell out of them in the UK mags but really it's just commercial waffle. Mac is a natural, abundant food source that exists naturally around or coast. I think we already have the "super" bait they are trying to sell us.

bluey is as usefull as a chocolate tea pot or see-through curtain. i never managed to catch a fish on it in all my times of trying. if your loking for an alternative fish bait to mac or sandeel, herring is very under rated and one of my favourites. very good for tipping; for the likes of dabs and whiting.

Lads I have had some success with Bluey but only using cocktail baits, such as with Sandeeel and Squid for Dogs & Ray. But must agree with the comments, Mac is the way to go and is also easier on the pocket..... I tried Bluey after reading about in the UK Magz as dfella25 says but wont be bothering with it again. Mac all the way...

Tried them several times. I would say that mac works slightly better for me. Would agree that all that hype about blueys in UK angling mags is just salesman talk.

Blueys work well in the Scottish sea lochs for spurs etc, like any bait they have times and places where they work better than others.

Deadly up in Iceland for just about anything that swims, boat or shore.

Just for completeness I looked up the species in fishbase. The name is Pacific Saury (Cololabis saira) and as name suggests it's a pacific species.
