Shore Specimen List

i know there is one but just cant seem to find it

The Irish Specimen Fish committee have only one list which are the same for boat and shore. The Irish Federation of Sea Anglers have a seperate list for boat and shore. You'll find at the back of one of their old Diary's.

Where do i get the forms to register a specimen, and do you still have to send the fish?

you can download specimen claim forms from http://www.irish-trophy-fish.com depending on the fish you dont need the body .
Good quality photographs showing key identifying features for that species will do in most cases .so it means the fish can go back to give someone else a chance .

As far as I'm aware you don't need to send the fish, but the fish must be weighed on land by a certified scales. You can download a claim form on their website.

i also wanted to find out what to do. i had a couple of specimen with the best being a 2Ib 15oz roach on lough erne. i also got a couple of specimen mackerel and shore rockling.

there is a specimen form in the ifsa diary ,all members of sea angling clubs that are affiliated to the ifsa should have one.

there was one specimen scad and nine cuckoo wrasse recorded in 08! whats the harm in that? most fish are returned alive

look at the amount of specimen caught compared to the amount of people who fish in the country!

it might seem a bit of worthless paper to you but for alot of the people who are in the specimen book for 08 put in some amount of hours trying to get their just rewards. its highly sought after if you ask me.

Can honestly say that I never claimed a specimen although I have caught plenty of fish that would have qualified for a certificate. Problem was that the fish would have to be sent to Dublin (this was a long time ago)and I could not see the point then in killing a fish just for an ego trip. My opinion has never changed I am proud to say. The great majority of sea anglers I know would never dream of having a trophy photograph taken holding a 20 ounce Cuckoo Wrasse, let alone applying for a specimen fish certificate.

Before you put any more posts on this subject I suggest you read the new requirements for claiming a specimen fish. Good photos will do for most species under the new format.
It may not still be the best but it is progress.

There would be far more wrasse killed in one boat comp than all the specimen claims for wrasse in a year , the fish are reeled in as fast as possible purely for a few more points on a score card ,The specimen fish sent back for id purposes are also a good source of information on the rates of growth in certain species . maybe some people see it as an ego trip ,personally I like the challenge of trying to catch a fish above a certain weight and having it verified on accurate scales, the weights are a good bench mark to work against and it takes alot of the luck element out catching a fish when you specifically target a species ,having to learn it's habitats ,feeding and time of year it's most likely to be caught ,Rather than just dandering down to a mark throwing out a set of feathers ,maybe a bit of bait and seeing what turns up .
