i fish for wrasse every year and have caught them on either a float. bait hard on the bottom and moving ragworm and crab across the bottom never on feathers but if you bait your feathers with ragworm in an area were wrasse feed you might have some success...

Sometimes get wrasse on various lure type rigs but they're very much the exception, and feathering for them definitely isnt a frontline method.
They do take artificials like plastic crab and shrimp on the float, or just twitched around the bottom under rocky ledges on a light lead. One local has great success this way by collecting big (1inch) rock lice and whipping them live on the hook. He also eats the catch...

Fishing for mach last year of brownstown tramore had to move because we were catching to many wrasse, and as it is very deep they would not go back so you can catch wrasse on feathers ( but this the only time ever got them this way)

Yes baited feathers/Hokkais with mackeral strips are pretty good. They're usually big ones that take the baited feathers aswell.

I would have to say that this is the best answer on the thread!
Yes you will always hear anicdotal stories of different species being caught using various methods, such as wrasse on hookais etc however if you are targeting wrasse, then rag on a small, strong short shank hook is hard to beat, either float fishing or a plain 2 hook flapper.

once you see the small wrasse feeding dip a hook baited with rag.. you will get 100s of bites before the commotion attracts the bigger wrasse.. this method works around piers especially dun leary pier where you can fish from anywhere for them
