Mullet

is it too early to catch mullet on bread? And can you buy premaid pennely rigs, two hook flappers etc in a fishing shop?

Tried mullet fishing with bread about 3 weeks ago and they ignored it. Only tried once so it might only be me.
You can buy those rigs in tackle shops but in my opinion you are far better off tying them yourself! When you get the hang of it it works out way cheaper and the rigs are much better!

As Chris said above, yes you can buy these rigs in shops but it will work out way cheaper to tie them yourself. What you could do is buy a couple of rigs and then use them as a template and copy them. You should take a trip to the halfway angling centre near Bandon, you will find all the bits you need there

Rosscarbery in Cork has produced mullet on bread since March,or earlier.
It seems to depend on how far south you go.....

If you've seen some mullet about then you should try fishing for them using bread. Myself and K2 off the site are just back from an area not that far away from you in Cork and we managed to catch a few using bread and a float set-up.
There was a good number of mullet around and they were feeding well on the bread we threw out to them so my advice to you would be to just give the bread a go and see if they show any interest in it. Good luck.

I had a 4lb 12oz fish on bread in Rosscarberry on the 13th March. No sign of a fish in Dublin yet. Bring on global warming !

Jesus cant wait for the mullet to arrive back in laytown. Some great fishing after work and no bait collecting just don't tell the wife why all the bread goes missing from june to september.

just for any one like me who can tie rigs but hated doing it. lizardrigs in the uk, cant be beat for service and they will do free delivery on orders over a certain amount, there about 1.20euro for most rigs and you tell them what size hooks you want. cause the guy who runs the site actually makes the rigs himself. and reels rods and other tackle. just google lizardrigs check him out you wont be sorry
p.s i dont know the guy or work for him cause i sing there praises alot but great site to deal with and very friendly check them out do it, do it, do it

Hi there I'm a new comer to the site and a laytown man myself,
I fished the nanny river for donkeys years and caught some fantastic mullet,
Only prob now is i'm living in donegal now not as many mullet up here and they don't really show till mid may.
I'll have to pop back to the nanny for some mullet soon,
