help for a newbie??

Tue Mar 30, 2010 6:00 pm

Hi everyone,

Im a newbie to this website and was hoping for a bit of help regarding locations in wexford for camping and some good fishing.

I dont expect anyone to share their secret spots but any general help would be appreciated :)

in the next couple of weeks i am hoping to travel to Wexford by car from Dublin for a weekend of camping and fishing, preferably looking for spots to do some wild camping.

I would be extremely grateful for any suggestions of anywhere in Wexford where this would be possible and also the type of fish that i might expect to catch in that area??

I would really appreciate the help guys..... :)

Thanks ...
Jay :D

Toberpatrick (near Ballymoney/Courtown/Gorey) is a great spot for a bit of "wild" camping as you put it although it may be a bit early for the better fishing off that beach.

Its a long shallow clean beach and you should be getting flatties, coalies, whiting, rockling, dogs etc at this time of year, maybe a few schoolie bass, give it a few months and the better bass and smoothhounds will be around.

If you want camping with a little more luxury, I have been to the campsite at Morriscastle which is grand, if not a bit pricey.........but at least you can get a hot shower in the morning, your also only a 2 min walk from the beach.

Same type of beach as above, but I'm told there is already the odd smoothhound being caught along that stretch.

Hope that helps.
