gunwell

hi, lads im new in site.did anyone have been fishing in place named GUNWELL in donegal in chanel near killibegs deep 18 metres hole, it was wee port during 1-st world war. i was there in january with not much of luck.1 flatfish,crab and starfish.may anyone of you were down there Is any point to go down this time of the year

Never fished the Gunwell myself, have heard about it though. I'd imagine it'll start producing fish soon, same as most other marks around the County.

well, i may try to run away from wife on saturday see what the story in gunwell what kind of bites bring whit me much i know there flatties, dogs, husses, pollocks habitating around

Go with mackeral and lug, that should cover those beasties.

Water has warmed a small bit since last week but i'd give it another couple of weeks. You can catch dabs, dogs, odd ray, pollock, wrasse and other bits and pieces off it. Plenty of small coalies too.

had a few great session on gunwell caught ray, conger, flats, wrasse, my mate caught mackerel on bare hooks new years day last year. Dont go with to much kit as its a rope climb up and down, in the summer you can see the shoals below you.
but a lovely fishing spot.

hi yorkshire man i wondering r u tolking about same place becouse there is grass underfoot, well nearest access true the farmers land 10 min wolk, is no where to climb may u landed from lighthouse side or u were fishing right there

Welcome to the site grady Iv been fishing there for the past eight years very good spot from late April-October plenty of big Pollock,Wrasse,Ray,Doggies,Conger all the Flatfish family, Dragonet & Blennys, best fished the first two hours of the filling & stranding tide best place to fish is of the flat peice of land or the rocks to the left.

Cracking spot for fishing. Yorkshire man is right about the rope climb if you go to the end of the track to the slipway there is a rope that you can use to climb up to the high point of the field and then walk down to the grassy fishing area. I've walked to the fishing area both ways and going up the rope is probably a bit easier aslong as you don't bring mountains of gear with ya. I look forward to your report I'm thinking of heading up there Easter Saturday.
