what are the best tactics for estuary mullet, can you use king rag cut into smaller sections.Ive seen the mullet swim around in the little pool.the water is very shallow maybe only 2ft deep so i was thinking of using a leger rig and should i use a little metal spoon above the bait.

the mullet are mostly around 2lbs - 4lbs :D

any help would be great.cheers. :D

mullet are tough cookies, try pre-baiting pool with small pieces of bread then freeline bread on small hooks
use light gear if hooked they put up a good fight
good luck

i would try pre-baiting the pool but there are alot of gulls in the area and i think they might eat all the bread
ill give it a try anyway, thaks.
anyone else have any other ideas on rigs(cant use floats cause the water is to shallow),bait or hook sizes etc.
any help would be great.cheers.

PS,I had a look at the pool and the mullet haven't arrived for summer yet.

onion sack full of bread crushed up with a couple of tins of tuna ,mashe into small pieces ,too small for gulls ,tie it to shore let swell wash it around and lots of patience

Pebait your pool for 3, 4 or even 5 days beforehand, to get the fish used to the feed and to hang around looking for it. If you want to be dedicated, do this for every tide.

...the stories I could tell about prebaiting!

Persist with feeding bread, small amounts and often over 4 or 5 days. If the mullett are not familiar with bread as i gather this is the case it may take a little longer. Having the bread a mushy concistancy will cause it to sink and hopefully avoid the attention of the seagulls. Good luck.
