Crab On Your Bait

Hi,
Does anyone know how to stop crabs takin ya bait. Or do i have to pray?

in theory the colder it is, the less crabs are about.
some reckon that crabs dont eat other crabs but ive not found this to be true.

you could try using some floating beads to keep the bait slightly off the bottom. these can be expensive tho. a bit of polystyrene just above the hook should work too but you might not get as many bites.

Flaoting beads can help but the crabs will still swim up to the bait, try using crab for bait wrapped on with thread, they'll will still eat it but not as quick should last a bit longer anyway.

ya the elastic thread is prob the best but also remember crab activity can help fish activity :D

hi mate it is hard to keep crabs off your bait, but as most lads said floating beads.. if you do not have floating beads a cheaper way is to use pipe lagging.. you know the spongie stuff that is wraped around pipes use a little bit of that.. dont take the ladding of your house pipes...just pull the hook through it like you would with a lug bait and then add your bait.. its works for me....

if you mostly fish in Sligo its just one of them problems there are a few marks that seem to be crab free pm me i will tell you which ones but both balisadre and sligo estuary's are packed with them
