hi all'just joined the forum today, looks a great site for hints and tips for fishing.seen that frodo baggins caught a cracking thornie (which i would estimate about 12 lb but don't quote me on this) on cappa pier.which brings me to the question that i would like some advice on. going over to ireland in early october to fish,we will be based at kilrush and any advice on the marks around this area would be appreciated along with tides, bait, rigs.not much to ask i know but ANY advice as i said would be great.
cheers

Hi Shaun
Nice to see you found this great forum. As Shaun has said we are coming over in October, 10 of us to fish the Shannon on the Co Clare side.
I have already PM'd a few on the forum about a meet. Do any of you local guys on this forum fancy it?
We could make it into a friendly match.
We will be over the weekend of 13th- 17th Oct.
Let us know the general feeling and we will sort something out.

Hi Frodo
I sure yourself, Ross and Donagh and others will be up for a friendly challenge.
None of us Welsh lads have fished the area, so you will be at an advantage to start.
It would be nice to have a meet up with you lads off this forum, more than anything else, you now, faces to names, friendly banter, and all that.
I know Donagh was interested in trying out the various different rods that we use, try before you buy.

Did you get my PM with my email address so you can send me the pics of the area.
How is the fishing at the moment?

Hi,
I'm still on for the meet but it is a fair bit away still. Have to choose a venue like carrigaholt or poulnasharry to fit that many anglers together. We'll see closer to the time.

Hi Donagh
What are those two venues like at that time of year, are they beach or rock marks, and what would be the target spiecies?

Hi Wayne,
AS I said its a long way off so better off choosing a venue closer to the time. I don't fish in clare much so I can't give any expert advise but advise from others and little bit of fishing I've done here:
Carrigaholt is a ray venue but being able to cast is really neccessary. At night and high tide this is less important. The ray I got here thats up on the site in December was 20 yards out. Dogs and flounder also here.
Poulnasharry. Casting can be important here. Ray, Dogs and huss are all here. Spring tides mean only fishable on slack water.

Wayne,
I am on for the challenge and the craic! Ye can always bring the rugby ball as back up!
I will be living in West Clare full time from Mid July and will be in tune (hopefully!) with where the best fishing is. I will be linking up with Frodo and we can do the research.
Donagh has given a good description of the general fishing in this area.
Nearer to the time Frodo and I will give full update on venues etc. that are fishing well.
Looking forward to meeting ye!
