salted herring as bait

was out fishing near helvick last night and got talking to a shrimp boat skipper, he had a barrel of salted herrings for bait in the pots and kindly gave me 6 of them. just wondering are they any good as bait and are they fit for human consumption 8)

ive not tryed salted herring but i have used plain herring and its very good its a very soft bait but full of oil so use elastic to keep it on ive caught bass,doggies,coalies,cod,whiting,ray and conger on them in the summer i always caught as many as i can to top my freezer up hope this helps bro

time machine dont know what you mean bro down in cork we get loads just when the macrail leave the herring start to show if not the herrig boats always have load

hhhmmmm, gonna try some down in youghal anyways,if kfc works down there so should these :shock: the fillets seem fairly tough seens as its salted aswell...cheers :wink:

tried that salted herring tonight on ferrypoint and nada, also tried cooked mussel, prawn and bunches of frozen crab legs aswell NADA :evil: :lol: i wish it would rain fresh peeler crab on me.... free ones of course :P
