HELP
I bought a ron thompson mission multiplier. When I cast with it it makes a clicking sound even though its in free spool ( it definitely hasn't got the rachet turned on.I fell it is really slowing down the reel during a cast + effecting distance and we cant have that! Im just wondering does anybody have this reel or know what the problem is with it. Seriously thinking of throwing it in the bin and putting a supermag on the credit card. any advice would be apprciated

I have one of these buried in the shed somewhere (that probably tells you all you need to know!). I think it used to be called the intellix.
After a couple of nice casts it started sounding like a bag of bolts. I took it apart and the brake blocks had almost melted! Get some new brake blocks, and replace the old ones. Clean out the bearings, and put some red rocket fuel on them. It should be fine after that. It helps if you don't over fill it with line too.
It might seem easier to buy a super mag, and it is an infinitely better reel. However it's no harm practicing cleaning and lubing the bearings on the mission first. You'll need to do this with the supermag at some stage anyway, so you might as well try it out on the mission. You never know, you might find it works perfectly after that. If it's still sounding like a buzz saw, lob it in the shed behind the old paint cans, just like I did. It's perfectly fine to fish with once you stick to clean ground, and don't expect it to hit 200 yards. The only reason I ditched it was because I use F/S reels over clean ground, and wanted a robust multi for the rough stuff, which is why I went for the penn 525.

I had a similar problem with a cheapy shakespeare multiplier. After one use it kept clicking even with the ratchet turned off. I opened it up and found that the ratchet was a piece of copper. Somehow it had been bent so that even when the ratchet switch was in the "off" position it was still touching the cog. I bent it back a bit with a pliers so that it only touched the cog while in the "on" position.
It was a simple fix it but it isnt a good indication of the quality of the reel.

Danceswithwolves,
Cheers i opened up th reel and the exact same thing had happened mine. The rachet (made out of a thin strip of copper) had bent. I took the thing out completely (never use it anyway). Gave the bearings a clean and a lub up. Things seems to be running nicely. Will find out in an hour or 2 ( going off to catch a few codling for tea) Nice one
