What does everyone think of squid and blueys as my 2 baits, headin out in the mornin for whiting, hopefully some conger pollack flats and dogs.
I ordered rag but cant get them till 12 in the afternoon, i'm heading at 8.30am for the flood - high tide at 1pm.
So gona go do the morning session with the squid and bluey, then pick my rag up on way home. Then i will do a night session friday night with the rag and the rest of the squid.
How can i keep the rag alive and what do you call that gold smudgy stuff they give you with the rag covered in it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

If you keep rag in a fridge or even a nice cold shed/garage ya shud keep them for 3 or so days.. I find conger do like a bit of squid....works well for em..

Should get a few on the squid and bluey just make sure you have bait elastic for the bluey as its very soft.I keep rag in a fridge in a tray with a tiny drop of sea water and it keeps for weeks as long as you change the water regularly and remove any damaged worms.

a bluey is a pacific fish, kinda like a mackerel, but oilier, and is the new hot bait, overrated i think,a fresh mackerel works just as well if not better!

Blueys are a good bait- I have had a lot of luck with them for certain fish but not others. I do agree with what doggie says tho- good old fashioned fresh mack is just the allround ticket. Congers love it. Take bigsod's advice and put lashings of bait elastic around it other ways it will be stripped.
Squid is a bait I can honestly say I have never used- for no particular reason tho. Must give it a try next time im out.
If all else fails try waht I do out of boredom (and despiration)- put as many different types of bait no a 2 hook flapper as possible- ie- rag, lug, bluey and mack and squid if you have it. If they dont want one of them then there is no fish there......

not fussed on the blueys, have tried them many times and also think that they are overrated,
each time i put two rods out, bluey on one, mac; on the other, the mac; out fished the bluey every single time. but there is people that swear by them, but I'm not convinced

the stuff you get the rag in mostly up here is called vermiculite, as far as im aware it is used in the building trade or something, im not a fan of it personally as i find it kills the worms off fairly quickly...

I did get out on friday morning, bad weather though. wind and rain in my face i was soo numb. The sea was perfect for fishing, couldnt feel any bites though, but some of my baits wer stripped so there was somthing about. I had to pack up, as i dont have te right clothing for that type of weather, no thermals or waterproofs or i woulda stayed and battled it out.
