Need to get a mate into fishing: Waterford mark suggestions?

Hi All,

I've got a mate who's said he'd like to get into fishing, but doesn't know much about it. Now, there's a lot in this for me: if he gets hooked, then I've got a handy mug, I mean partner, for digging bait; I get to to go on drinking, I mean fishing, trips that sound plausible to his wife and mine; and––let's face it--fishing is better in company.

The best way to do this that I can think of is to bring him to a mark that's guaranteed to produce something. Remember what it was like to start fishing: the same dogfish that would leave you cursing when you go for bass now seemed then like catching Jaws. So, I reckon that if I get my mate at least one fish, even if it's just a whiting or a pout, my cunning plan will succeed.

The problem is that I've just moved near Dungarvan, and I don't know any local marks that are likely to produce even pest fish for a newbie. So, can anyone suggest a mark from, say, Youghal to Dungarvan, that will almost certainly produce a whiting, pout, dogfish, whatever, even if it doesn't necessarily deliver on anything better?

my god your living in fishing utopia i reckon you could throw a line out anywhere around you and a bass would suddenly appear if the shore reports are anything to go on. ther has been more bass caught in waterford/cork than in any other place in ireland this year but im sure one of the natives will guide you right idont see aproblem with your mate catching something not in that end of the country enjoy tight lines

I wish it were true! Of my last four sessions, I've blanked three--though I reckon that may be down more to my incompetence than the lack of bass! It's for that reason I'm looking for marks that produce even rubbish fish. Don't think dragging my mate out digging lug and having him spend a cold afternoon on windy surf beach to catch nothing would be the best intro; we'll save that for when the addiction kicks in
