Time for a new Rod and Reel

Wed Oct 28, 2009 5:11 pm

Hi Lads,

im thinking of buying a new beachcaster and new reel, and im very tempted to buy it all today, including a tripod and a few other bits and peices. Im going to keep my other rod for feathering and spinning while bait fishing with the other hence a tripod for two rods. I have to admit i really am getting into all of this in a big way! i have about €200 to spend and was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions? Im in the wicklow/dublin area.

shakespere salt fs/mx 13ft 2in rated 4oz-8oz,brilliant rod for the money, ive the fs(fixed spool) version and it throws a good line.and an leeda ocean roar reel is not a bad reel to start of with, but for a better reel a shimano aerlex 8000 is a brilliant reel, you should be able to get both for under 150 euros.

got the same rod in mx version, on my last outing i used it with my slosh30 as we were fishing rough ground, and it pulled the doggies up threw the kelp no problem, found it to have good back bone and casts very well. as doggie3131 said, brilliant rod for the money. i'm well pleased with mine.

ok thanks for all the helpful replies lads, i have been wrecking my brains over the last couple of days and wrecking the other halfs head too. I have looked in a couple of shops in wicklow and wexford and on glasgow angling's website - (amazing prices!), and i have seen a number of options, all varying in price. I think i will definitely go for the shimano aerlex reel and a 13ft rod - but, I think i will leave it until next week or so. In the meantime are any of yous heading out over the next week or two in dublin/wicklow? would anyone mind if i tagged along to see beachcasting rods in action? i want to be sure before i buy what exactly to buy.

Thanks

Conor

8) 8) 8)

finally got sorted! spent a bit more than i initially wanted too, but, all in all i am delighted! im dressing up as fisherman tonight
so, heres what i got:

13ft fixed spool Daiwa Sand Storm Rod
Shimano Aerlex 8000 Reel
Double Tripod
3 rigs
3 5oz weights

I am over the moon with it all to say the lest ,and cannot wait to head out as soon as possible.

Thanks to you all for the help, i decided to go up from the salt range as i thought i may as well spend the extra few quid on a rod which i felt was better.

Finding nemo : drop me a pm with your details if your still heading out mon/tues!! :D

now for some tight lines!
