Hooks going rusty !!

Hi

What brand of hooks do you use, Have had most of the one I bought inluding some Mustad Stainless steel hooks going rusty under the barbs,

The worst ones I have found seem to be Black Aberdeens these seem to go rusty and pitted after 1 session.

Thanks

i always dip my rigs in a bucket of rainwater after a trip, works a treat, and keeps my hooks in good shape.works for reels as well.

To be honest mate i usually use new hooks each session. Don't want to miss a good fish by not having sharp hooks, or worse still loose one if a hook breaks.

Just make sure you dispose of the old hooks properly. You wouldn't want the loved one to stand on one at home! Like my mates wife did. He wasn't popular after that lol

I use rig winders and wash them in the sink after each session and let them dry before putting them back in one of the tronix storage boxes. After 3 uses i take the swivels, beads and lead links off the rig for use again and scrap the rest.

I agree with jammy joe, rarely use same rig twice, for same reasons as pointed out.

I cant afford to dump the hooks after one session  , so i rinse them off when i get home.Might have to use the rainwater if they start charging for mains water(and stop washing out cans etc for recycling).Usually use Kamasan hooks but still replace them regularly when they start to get dull.

A good spray with wd40 works a treat.

cant use mains water down here, theres so much chemicals it would distroy the hooks quicker  but like the others i change my hooks after three sessions cause they start to lose there sharpness, and i carry a hook sharpener as well and give the hooks a go every night.

when i use black aberdeens its one session only, for they do pit and rust after one outing. kamasan hooks are not to bad, would use them for a good few sessions before replacing them.
but now i use circle hooks for nearly every session, these are rinsed off in fresh water after each trip and a quick dab with kitchen roll to dry them off, and the ones i was using at the start of the year are still in very good nick, they are well worth paying that bit extra.

Baby powder in the tackle box works well for me. And don't mix used hooks with new ones.

Aint the best attractant for fish is it !! and polluting the sea with petro chemicals. dont want to poison what I eat

think Ill have to stop being a tight ass and buy bulk rather than use em 3 or 96 times or buy a 9'' grinder with diamond blade to skim em off a tad  :D

After a session, I normally fill the sink with warm water and a bit of fairy and give all used rigs a wee dunk, and I normally replace hooks regularly!

PS wozza do a wee search on WD40
