Fishing Gear - Lidl

Mon Apr 18, 2005 10:55 am

Anybody manage to get down to Lidl to see the fishing gear?
Anything of use? Saw the flyer, but you'd have to be able to handle the gear to see what its like.
Might wander down later, if the vultures havent had their way.

Nipped out and bought a box of lures, the filleting set and one of their bivvies - cheap as chips, but seems to be ok qualitywise! I thought I might see how much the fish weighs now, but the scales are crappy and you get a different reading each time, but I only wanted the knives anyway!

Hi popped in on the way to work

the waders are ok, they wont last long and will tear easily but are handy for rock hopping, with the thigh waders only 15 euro its worth getting a pair.

The lure box is ok if you do a bit of boat fishing , but the lures are not that great value. at 11 euro for 15 you get some small pirks some hokkai type lures and some muppets and clip on swivels, the box is handy though.

the rods are pretty awful but the telescopic might be of use for abroad, but its very very soft actioned.

the chair is probably ok for short sessions.

worth a look all the same

I got the fish smoker (good) and the beach buddy style thing (not looked at yet really). Overall Quality looks pretty good for the price. Was'nt as impressed with the lures sets value-wise but still good on em for getting stuff in now and again!

but some bits and pieces a few months back when they first started selling fishing gear, the standard is ok....if you buy any lures replace the trebles yourself as the hooks bend very easy...i lost a trout and pike or two around cavan because of this and i'd say a 3lb plus pollack or bass would bend the hooks in seconds

I managed to pic up a bite detector, thigh waders and the lure box.
Handy bits.

I bought the rod hold all, seems excellent for the €12, two full length compartments and 1 a bit shorter.
Also got the thigh waders, came in just at the right time as I have to try and remove a plastic bag from the boat propeller.
Also got the pirk set, contains, 5 pirks from 85g up to 150g, and some hokiis, muppetts and worm jigs. The 150g pirk has the bluntest treble I've ever seen, I still thought it was good value though as they came ina good box.

Aye, tis handy stuff for the price.

By the by, for you Dub lads.
Theres a DIY shop in Swords called 'Arro', advertising small lake boats and everything. Got the flyer the other week with a big 'We'll get you hooked on fishing' print. Really lots of gear, prices seemed decent enough. Main Street in Swords, i think.

there is a limited supply of gear at Taylors aka 'Arro', main st, swords - they have the essentials for sea and fresh water fishing and a good selection of reels but no bait. :(

I saw some of the Lidl stuff. You get what you pay for in my opinion - and at Lidl - it doesn't cost much !!

cheap stuff

the smoker looked good and 2ce the size of the (Abu) one Mrs M. got me for Christmas. The rod hold all was too heavy when empty! My prediction is after this sale the canals will be empty by next week.. :(
