Spring tides are good for fishing for Bass although you can catch them on any tide but it all depends on the location you are fishing at.
The bait I would reccommend is razorfish and fresh lugworm. Sandeels are good in the summer as well as peeler crab but for all year they are the two I have found to be the best.
Night time is the best time to fish for them, the darkness tends to bring the fish in closer to shore to feed without being spooked.
You can use either a grip weight or a bomber weight. A non grip lead will allow your bait to move around more and cover more area in the water.
Either way I have caught bass with.
There's no need to cast out really far, you only need to chuck your bait out to approx. the third or forth breaker/wave out, that's where the Bass are feeding along any sand bank that crabs and other small baits are sheltering in from the strond currents/waves.
The presentation of your bait is the most important thing, make it look as natural as you can.
If you get this right then you'll maximise your chances of catching this extremely nice fish.
Use a light spinning/surf rod and hold it rather than put it up in a rod rest. That way you will feel any bite at all and you will be able to strike for it right away rather than loosing time getting it off the stand and maybe missing the fish completely.
Plugging and lure fishing at this time of year can be very effective too, maybe consider giving that a go.
Hope this is off some help, good luck.
