Hey folks,

I was down at the beach yesterday with a friend and we met some people, they wernt Irish, east euro maybe anyway they had caught about 5 big pollack and a big 6-7 pound bass but they did this without angling...

They swam out and down deep and spear gunned these fish, is this illegal in Ireland or what are the laws?

Spearfishing is unregulated, basically there are not enough people doing it to make a law for it.
The only issue is related to the type of speargun. Pneumatic spearguns are classed as Firearms.
If you have a rubber powered gun you are fine. Scuba divers cannot collect shellfish according to Byelaw 533/1967 but its legal on freediving and snorkelling.
