Bass in West Donegal

Wed Aug 12, 2009 11:50 am

I've never caught a Bass.

But i've often wondered if bass could be caught up here. Could anyone give me tips as to where and when to concentrate in order to maximise my chances. Also, can people let me know if they have caught any in the vicinity.

Tall order, anthony.

There's certainly Bass in North Donegal, and if you put in the time and effort you may well figure out West Donegal. But it's going to be a long slog, fishing marks at all stages of the tide and all times of day with all kinds of tactics & baits to be able to find them and catch them consistantly.

Look for a rocky, kelpy shore that the tide covers and uncovers.

As the man says Anthony, you'll have to put the time and effort in. Get yourself some lug or rag and concentrate on some of the surf beaches first or as Gerry says get to the shallow rocky areas. They are there in Donegal though, south west and north.

I've seen them in supervalue, do you have one of them in glenties
Good luck with the hunt, I've only ever been fortunate to catch a few of them, but what a buzz, dusk and night time is meant to be best.
