what age?

What age is the right age to get a child interested in fishing?
I have a 7 year old who keeps asking me to bring him along. Is this too young for the odd trip.

Is there anywhere easily accessible, child friendly and within driving distance of Dublin, and with fish no matter how small?

Theres no right or wrong age IMO, if the child is 'around fishing' activies and talk they will become interested in it.

My young fella is 3 and a half and is obsessed with peelers, lug worm and Bass!
He sits there watching me servicing reels etc.....its the only time hes quiet !!!!
Il have him out in a couple of weeks for a few macks to see how he takes to it 8)

If they show an interest, give them a rod. My eldest girl started at 3 with a 21/2lb trout and then progressed to the sea and fished boat and shore comps from abt 10. Although not a member of the club the guys didnt mind and just as well for she beat us many a time. Just startin my latest 2 of 4 and 5 and the eldest of them is a girl. Down the side of harbour walls are a good place to let them feel the bites and catch a few. This gets them interested but be sure to put them back, they like to see them swim off again. Be patient have fun and you will have a fishing buddy for life. Enjoy and tight lines.

I'd say get him fishing, I think I started when I was 5 or 6 and I was hooked! I remember a newspaper cut out from the Derry Journal when my granda took me up to Creggan Reservoir in Derry and I hooked a 2 1/2lb rainbow on the fly in a fishing comp. Haven't had a trout as big since

i'd say bring him along i started my kids at 3 or 4years old only one of them has taken to it he is now 10 but is more fanatical about fishing than me he also has better gear than me
so pick a safe spot and see how it goes its great craic :D hopefully he will like it and you will have a fishing buddy for life
