Is there any decent bass being caught down in Co.Kerry?

Tue Jun 30, 2009 3:18 pm

I was just wondering if there has been any bass caught down in the Dingle, Tralee Bay area since the ban ended on the 15th.
I am planning to go there quite soon and was just wondering how it is fishing.
Any reports would be appreciated.

Kerry,
I believe there are plenty to be had out around Brandon and the estuary. Also heard that back of Fenit is fishing well also.

I had one of 5.5 lb, 25inch long or there abouts a few days after the ban was lifted. I was fishing around Castlegregory. He took a big dirty lump of mackeral. Only bite I had all that evening. Have fished the same area a few times since and had nothing, not even a nibble.

Is that so? How interesting, I was under the impression you had a clear opinion about sharing info regarding marks, oh well I'll take it you are still young and learning  8) viewtopic.php?f=3&t=22248

Nice try though.
You should never give away your favourite fishing marks to anyone, especially on a forum like this one where loads of people can read what you are saying, before you know it loads of people turn up and there is no room for you to fish. It spoils it.
So sorry, but you won't be getting any marks to go and fish from me, hope you understand where I am coming from with this one.

:P :P :P NICE TRY TOO, Hahaha

I didn't ask for anyone to give me names of specific marks and the reason for this is because I know the Dingle and Tralee Bay area very well and know most of the best marks to fish around there already.
And no, I am not telling you any, nice try though
All I was wanting to know was if there was any fish being caught in that area.

Hey Kerry1,
Just back from 2 weeks in Dingle and although I didn't get as much fishing in as I was hoping for (it was more a holiday with friends & family than a fishing break) we did manage a few to 4lbs with plugs and lures around Ventry and Castlegregory. Conditions were very calm but the returns were good considering the small amount of time we invested...
Interestingly, I've never seen as many sandeels as I did in the last 2 weeks down there - the sea was full of them. The most successful lures we used were also sandeel size and shape.

Hope this helps
Pete

Just back from a weeks fishing myself.

Had a few small Bass which gave a great scrap on the new 4-20g 8.5 foot rod. cracking sport. All went back well. I didn't hear of any big fish. I also a net been lifted at the mouth of Cloghane estuary :| Real pity. some people just done realise the $$$$$ sport anglers bring to that part of the country. The guy lifting the net was in a Grey rib launched off Brandon pier. I didn't report it as I didn't have any numbers for the local guys and it was late in the evening.

I'll put a call in tomorrow.
