Telescopic rods - advisable or not for shore angling?

Just wanted to get your opinion on this one. I have four rods that I rotate depending on the mark, but everytime I have to travel, specifically if fishing is just a side trip I wanted to have some small gear packed for it. All my rods are 2 Piece and a couple of them don't fit on the boot so it goes inside the car with us. I have heard before that the telescopic ones are not as durable as the solid ones. Is it advisable to have one and not regret that I used a telescopic rod once something big bites on the shore?

Just wanted to get your opinion on this one or probably share your experience comparing telescopic Rods with the solid ones.

If you are just looking for something that will fit comfortably in the boot there are plenty of three piece rods to choose from and you should be able to get one of them into the boot. Alternatively you could look into multi piece travel rods if you want something a bit smaller, I know Shimano and Daiwa have a range of them. I have one of the Shimano ones myself, its a 9' five or six piece spinning rod that I can fit in my suitcase and I've caught all sorts on it both here and abroad. The multi piece rods have got a lot better in recent years and once assembled you wouldn’t really notice that you are using a 5 or 6 piece rod apart from the fact that they are slightly heavier than their equivalent two piece.

there are some good telescopic rods out there but prepared to part with some big monies if you want one to last. as dave mentioned a three piece or multi piece outfit will do a great job, are very reasonbly priced and in my opinion would be the best road to go down. grauvell do some great three piece rods, under a 100 quid that will fit nicely on the back seat of most car. my experience of telescopic rods has been filled with bad memeories. having said that i have a lovely telescopic pole in france that cost me around 30 euro, and has landed me loads of nice fish sans probleme.

I actually have a little telscopic I got in ABC back in 2001 , Zebco , Rhino.. and it is a beast! I've taken pollock of 6lb on it, small conger off pier, doggies, huss, you name it, i've tried destroyin it, even pike.. It comes with a lifetime guarantee, and only cost me 30 euro ....

i recently bought a shimano telescopic rod for holidays and brought it out a few times to tast it, and it has become my fav rod, i cant believe the cast i get from it as its very springy i got it in temple bar and its the only travel rod they will reccomend

Is that the dark red pier rod? I have the same and its a cracking rod. Been abroad and spun for mackerel everything. Not a problem ever. Casts 4oz ok too. Was about 30quid or so.

have a 12 foot grauvell telescopic rod will hammer out a 3 oz weight and feathers or 3 hook flapper 80 to 100 yards ,had big dogs and double flounder on it no problem very handy if your travelling ,for heavy work in rough weather with big leads a 3 peice is your only man

just get a 3 peice rod it will last longer. a telescopic is not wort a sh.te
