dab fishing

Hi lads I was just wondering what are the tricks for catching dabs e.g. rigs ,bait ,tides ,and also could someone recommend a mark were I could catch dabs around west waterford or east cork

I am not familiar with Cork Marks. Whenever I go fishing my kids go with me and I give them the mackerel rigs with 5 pieces of size 4 hooks. We use squid as bait and been getting lots of dabs. We just came back from a session now in the estuary and got 10 dabs in 1.5 hours.
If I may ask why are you looking for Dabs?

As for rigs, tides etc, I'm sure it will depend on the venue.
But I suppose the things to remeber are that they are a relatively small fish, and if specifically targetting them use appropriate sized hooks/baits and 10-15lb hooklengths should be sufficent. Rig will depend on the distance you need to cast, ie 3 hook clipped down rig for anything over 70 yards, or a 3 hook flapper for <70 yards. If fishing in close (<50 yards) I use longer snoods, maybe upto 3 - 4ft, but if I'm fishing over this distance I would use 1 - 2 ft.
Personally I have found lug tipped with mackerel to be the best bet, but I'm sure others will have different baits that work best for them.
You'll be best served getting out there and trying a variety of techniques, tide times etc to see what works for you.

we had a few dabs off the wall in monkstown a few months back.
we had 2 hook flappers with crab and lug. i think the lug had the fish.

My mate is a Filleter and gives my other mate loads of them
he loves them why wouldn't he all that free fish
