Bite detection in the wind

Hey all

Any ideas on how to improve bite detection in the wind??

i find rod Butt on ground , and try keep only as much tip as needed above the rest... minimize both the wind slappin the rod, and the line catchin the wind too...

Keep your rod tip low and point the rod in the same direction as the wind is blowing.
With real heavy winds I find just reeling in every 20 mins or so is the better option....

keep it low,with the wind behind the rod, also using a rod with a stiff tip gives better bite detection in the wind

What if the wind is blowing directly onshore??

How can you point the rods 180 deg. away from where u r fishing?

while fishing in windy conditions i always use 5oz lead withgood grabs keeps a nice bend on the top of the rod also stops the rod from shifting in the rod stand you get to see all your bites then.

Plain and simple. Lots are fish are lost because rods are sat in tripods.
Why go to all the bother of buying or digging bait, driving to a mark, setting up, etc etc only to miss a fish as you have the rod in a tripod.

Especially if conditions are windy/rough etc, its madness not to.

How do you peel crabs, bait spare rigs, and all the other stuff while holding a rod

Take a leaf out of coarse fishers book.

Use a small weight on line(small float or split shot. I'm sure there's a term for it , but i'm not a coarse fisherman) between rod eyes.When weight lifts, you have a bite.

All as said above. Holding the rod is great for surf beachs with a single rod and 1 hook trace for bass. Thats why most surf rods are built extermely light. Not so good if you have two rods both with three hook traces.

Stiffer tipped rods are better for tackling wind. You also have concentrate on the tip, as well as the wind and wave action to filter the bites out. For alot of fishing you dont want to strike just leave the baits out regularly changing them

But yes if you intend fishing two rods then my post wont help ye much....!

I would still rather fish one good rod than be ensure over two.
Just mt 5 cents, different opinion etc etc

Hope i wont have too much wind to contend with for a while yet, but knowing Irish Weather.....

If its really windy, use a tough rod with a big lead...that secures the line (theorectically), keep the rod low and angle it toward the wind, it may not be possible...but having it low and at an angle should minimise wind,i find its mostly the weight and line rolling about that gives the rod the tugging sensation, so a heavy gripper might help
