I admit defeat (Lidl gear!!)

Yes, I bought the Lidl gear in the recent fishing sale and was all pleased with myself. Sure some of the stuff is fine, the knives are still working (the scales and measuring tape didn't last kissing time), the tips lights are great, the box of assorted gear was fine. But I bought the telescopic spinning beach caster (spinning?? It's 14ft long!) and the reel is now knackered. It only cost me €25 and I've had a bit of fun with it. At the time I bought it I was still fairly new to fishing and only had one rod. But lesson learned. The handle will now only turn the reel for half a turn. For the other half it cranks. So in effect I'm reeling in on the double. I barely got my first cast back in last night, then it loosened up a bit. It's cheap tat and I won't be buying it again. Even the last piece of the rod (the one closest to the reel) now won't extent fully any more, it gets stuck towards the end.

When was the last Lidl sale? How long did the rod & reel last? Useless, steer clear.

all the same they should replace it - i hear they are fairly easy going about it - not too many questions asked once youve got the receipt - probably because they get so many returns!

I suppose you get what you pay for but all the same I would have expected it to have lasted a little longer. I heard the same thing about returning stuff so its probably worth bringing it back in to them and exchanging it for a pint of milk, some farm yard manure, some artists canvas and whatever other random things are on special this week, it really can be a random shop at times.

In other Lidl news, Im still using two rods and reels from lidl have em over two years now, One telescopic and one "pier" outfit. I never rinse them out or clean the reels, I use them both at least once a week, I've had pike on the telescopic and its for carp. They receive constant abuse, Feck em in the boot then feck em in the garage, My favorite reel I got in Lidl for 6.99 almost 2 years old, I change the line and use it for everything. The abu garcia reel I shelled out 70 notes for last year doesn't get a look in! And the beach caster I got in the last sale is tremendous!

At the end of the day I can't really afford anything more than Lidl gear, If they do break Im still a happy fisherman. I also have a teeny tiny trout rod I take every where and I love it. Last year I shattered a rod I bought for €170, I didn't go fishing for a month I was so annoyed!

lidl gear is what it is, cheap and cheeerfull, basically made out of whatever is cheapest and easiest to assemble, for the summer angler or passing junior, its grand. considering i fish an awfull lot, i'd say lidl gear would last about a week in my hands. i only use the best tackle i can get, its expensive, sure. but i'd rather save up spend the hard earned cash on something thats going to last rather than keep rebuying crap week after week. my gear gets well looked after, reels always washed, rods put away in bags etc... very little of it brakes down and when it does i know my tackle shop or the reputable company in question will look after me. at the end of the day fishing is what you make of it, if your a pleasant day man the lidl stuff will do the job no question, if your a die hard match angler be prepared to invest in good quality stuff. what annoys me is people trying to ram this s*** down our throats just because they think its a bargain, these people have never had or tried decent stuff, how can they make a comparison between the two??

have to agree with eric there,I started out fair a weather fisherman with cheap gear,as i got more into it started to build up my gear with more quality equipment, more expensive, but much better!now i would never go back to cheap gear again :D im now starting to buy the real expensive stuff but if you look after it,you will get years out of it.and saving for it is half the fun!!
